Creature Feature: Cryptid Hunting

Special Guest: Lyle Blackburn

We talk a lot about legendary creatures on "The Creature Files," but our guest for episode 9 is legendary in the world of cryptozoology. So this episode isn’t about just one legendary creature or cryptid, it’s about cryptid hunting and we are going to talk to an expert in the field.

First let’s talk about cryptozoology. Cryptozoology is the study and search for animals which have not been formally described (often called cryptids, mystery beasts, or simply unknown animals), the study is carried out by people termed cryptozoologists. Some refer to is as monster hunting. And on "The Creature Files" we talk about cryptids, as well as creatures from mythology and folklore – but often what we consider mythical, is also a cryptid.

Now if you’ve ever dreamt about going into this field of study, you found the right episode. We welcome one of the most accomplished monster hunters in the world onto the show. Legendary Lyle Blackburn. He is an acclaimed author, a filmmaker, renowned cryptid investigator, and a musician – who fronts the band Ghoultown. He’s the narrator producer of documentary films such as "The Mothman of Point Pleasant" and "Boggy Creek Monster." You can find that all online at lyleblackburn.com. He is a frequent guest on radio programs such as Coast To Coast AM, and has been featured on various television shows airing on Animal Planet, Destination America, Travel, Discovery Science, and Shudder. In his work with Monsters and Mysteries in America, he served as both consulting producer and special episode host.

As a musician, Lyle has achieved similar success. His band Ghoultown has released eight albums, which have not only earned a loyal worldwide following, but found their way into movies, video games, and numerous live venues across the United States, Canada, and Europe.

When Lyle isn't writing books, hunting monsters, or performing with his band, he can be found speaking at various cryptozoology conferences and appearing at horror conventions around the United States. So check out Episode 9 of "The Creature Files" and learn all about cryptid hunting!
